President Mrs C Prudom welcomed members to this month's meeting and after Jerusalem was sung, business got underway.
Birthday cards were given out to five members, also to members whose birthdays are in August were given cards as no meeting is held in August due to holidays.
Apologies were taken, there were no minutes taken at last month's meeting as it was an e
ducational night instead of a formal meeting. A letter was read out from Jean Firth outlining the recent AGM held in the Royal Albert Hall, which gave a very detailed insight on what was discussed at the said meeting.
Mrs Flewker-Barker reminded members that anyone wanting to join the savings club could do so after the meeting. Thanks were extended to Mrs Flewker-Barker for arranging a most enjoyable night at the Whitby Coliseum Theatre to see the play The Land Girls.
Calendars and diaries must be ordered before the end of August. Mrs S Hunt Brown, treasurer, will take any order required. Business concluded.
Mrs Prudom welcomed Tony Fox who had come along to give his expert advice on wine. Samples of three wines were given out for members to taste. Member questions on the subject were many and it was felt that we all learnt something new about wine.
Mrs L Johnson thanked Mr Fox on behalf of the members for this very interesting talk on the subject. The raffle was won by Mrs M Welford. First prize in the competition for a desert in a wine glass was Mrs Y Barber, second Mrs J Clennon, third Mrs K Todd.
The next meeting will be held on 14 September at 7pm, the speaker will be Mrs A Gullon. The competition will be for a bookmark. There will also be a bring and buy sale. Non members are always welcome.
