Ugthorpe WI - July

THE July meeting of the WI opened with the singing of Jerusalem and was presided over by Mrs B Rutter. Mrs G Willis read the WI creed and Mrs M Gallon last month's minutes.
Names were taken for next year's diaries and calendars.
As some members and are acting as speaker by demonstrating Sweets, which will later be sampled, only savouries will be needed for next month's supper.
Names were taken for a summer lunch at Th
e Stables on 19 August, arrangements to be made at next month's meeting. Ugthorpe have entered next year's darts. Members who went to Eskmoor enjoyed seeing the lovely hats which could be sold or hired.
Mrs E Chapman and Kate Cornforth had done the Staithes walk and it is hoped to hold one at Ugthorpe next year in July. Mrs B Rutter volunteered to walk the route they hope to take. Later in the year Fryup is holding a Gardeners' Question Time. Members were asked for questions for this.
Mr and Mrs Wheeler were then introduced and told of the work they had done taking things to Romania which were needed for the children in orphanages, and how they had nursed the children with disabilities. Mr and Mrs Wheeler were thanked by Mrs F Hill.
The competition, for a jumper to go to Romania, was won by Mrs A Brown.
During supper Mrs B Rutter read an account of the AGM in London which had been attended by a member of the link institute, Ruswarp, she had really enjoyed it and the resolution on SOS Honey Bees was passed with 99.4%. The speaker Maureen Lipman had been amusing and Eve Pollard had given a powerful speech.
Supper hostesses were Mrs F Cornforth, Mrs U Darley and Mrs K Cornforth.
