THERE will be no August meeting of Hinderwell WI. The next meeting is on Monday 13 September in The Old School at 7pm. New members welcome. For details ring 840343.
AFTER appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Millar and Spencer perform their Jazz and Landscape Tour, melodic piano and saxophone with a video backdrop of Scottish scenery, on Thursday 9 September, from 8pm, doors open at 7.30pm. A COME and try it metal detecting event is being held on Sunday 12 September in a field in Borrowby. Meet Hinderwell Village Hall at 1.30pm to share transport, as parking is limited. There are four metal detectors, please bring extras if you can.
MULGRAVE History Project in the village hall on Wednesdays, 10am to noon, access to laptops for local and family history research, finding old newspaper articles, using map maker and vector maps. Cost is £1 per person, plus refreshments 50p. Or get involved in the oral history project – tell us what it was like growing up in your village. All welcome.
THE next dominoes drive at the Brown Cow is on Tuesday 7 September to raise funds for the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Blind and Partially Sighted society, 8pm for 8.30pm start. The next quiz will be on Tuesday 14 September with James Gibson as question master. Proceeds for the Old School.
COFFEE morning on Saturday 11 September at the Hinderwell Methodist Chapel in aid of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Blind and Partially Sighted Society, 10-11.30am. Usual stalls and raffle, all welcome.
TEMPEST Photography will be at St Hilda's Playgroup (The Old School) at 10am on Saturday 11 September. Children and family photographs can be taken, all welcome.

ACTIVITIES in the village hall now include: Monday, Bridge Club 7-9pm, beginners welcome, line dancing 7.30pm; Tuesday, 9am-9pm hourly bookings for badminton, table tennis, unihoc, mini tennis, free use of equipment; Wednesday, IT Group, learn at your own pace, 1.30-3.30pm (free), 7-9pm indoor bowls, beginners welcome, 10am-12.30pm craft class; 7.30pm beginners' line dancing. The hall is available to hire for meetings and group activities, £4 per hour. New ceiling drapes available for weddings, private parties, dances etc. Ring 840196 or 840561 to book the hall or for further details.
ST Hilda's Old School is available for hire at £5 per hour to include use of kitchen. If your club/group/committee require a room for meetings, coffee mornings or dominoes drives then contact Janet Lonsdale on 840038.

CLUBS
FRIDAYS in The Old School, 1.30-3pm, Beginners Tai Chi, soft shoes and comfortable clothes, everyone welcome.
HINDERWELL Youth Centre has re-opened. If you are a young person aged 13-19 or an interested parent that would like to help out on a Thursday evening between 7-8.30pm, contact Deb Stelling on (01609) 536196.
THE new Hinderwell branch of Whitby and District Credit Union is now open for business. The credit union is run by members for members. It offers a simple and safe way to save and can provide low interest loans. To find out more, call in at St Hilda's Old School any Tuesday between noon and 12.30pm.
