I am writing in response to the many letters already published regarding the proposed Sainsbury's store.
While I agree Whitby and its people have the need for a major supermarket, why on earth do they want to build on the current site of SPC UK and put the future of this already successful business and its employees at risk?

The council’s decision on this development will seriously affect the lives of the workforce and their families.

My husband is currently employed by SPC UK and after relocating here just three years ago to take up this position could now find himself forced out of employment in Whitby.

Yes, build us a major supermarket, be it Sainsbury’s, Tesco or Asda, but on a vacant site so creating more jobs for Whitby not destroying ones already here.

So, P Turner, you have now heard of someone complaining about the setting of the proposed supermarket.

Do you actually know that SPC UK exists on the proposed site?

Maybe you would have a different view if your future would be affected.

Mrs D Coulman, Gledhill Drive, Whitby
