THE following is a letter persuading people to buy Fair Trade products.
My year six children have written it as part of a topic on chocolate.
This topic is meant to promote discussion and help them prepare for their move to secondary school.
They felt this was such an important topic they wanted to have it included in your letters page:
Dear readers,
Have you seen the conditions of the cocoa bean farmers in Ghana?
Fair Trade products allow the farmers to have more money.
The only difference is you have to pay a bit more and if you did that you would feel better knowing you’re helping people in Ghana you would be changing lives in Ghana.
However, if you didn’t buy the Fair Trade products you wouldn’t be helping the people in Ghana to have a healthy lifestyle.
Cadbury, Nestle and the other leading brands do not always support Fair Trade.
This means they do not always pay enough to the farmers in Ghana.
How would you feel eating your Fair Trade chocolate knowing you have helped farmers in Ghana?
Gill Bottomley, on behalf of year six pupils at Ingleby Greenhow
