STAITHES is gearing up for its second successful real ale and jazz festival in the village.
Five bands as well as Staithes own blues singer Claire ‘CW’ Walton and jazz and ragtime pianist Henry Davies are lined up to play at the second Yorkshire Heritage Coast Traditional Jazz and Real Ale Festival from today to Sunday.

There will be a b
eer and sausage festival at the Captain Cook Inn in the village.

The CAMRA award winning pub which has featured in the Good Bear Guide for nine consecutive years will be serving up 22 cask conditioned ales from 22 English micro breweries.

They will be themed on England's Heritage in honour of the patron saint of England, St George.

Tasty sausages will be supplied by award-winning butcher James Lyth of RE Lyth & Son in Hinderwell.

Organiser Trevor Readman said he was expecting a bigger turn out this time around and added he was pleased with the response last year’s festival received.

“At the moment it looks like we’re going to have a better attraction than last year,” he said.

“Those who came last year said it was absolutely superb.”

The fun begins on the Friday at 3pm with the New Orleans Preservation Jazz Band with Claire ‘CW’ Walton and at 8pm The New Orleans Heat will take to the stage and entertain with some traditional jazz music.

On Saturday it will be the turn of the Railroad Bill Skiffle Band at 3pm to wow the crowd, followed at 8pm by the legendary Soar Valley Jazz Band with Claire ‘CW’ Walton. Sunday sees the Captain Cook All Stars join forces with Claire ‘CW’ Walton at 3pm.

And Claire will be selling a CD of her songs throughout the festival for £8, of which £2 will be donated to St Catherine’s Hospice.

Throughout the Saturday sessions Henry Davies will play jazz and ragtime piano and there will be a licensed bar in the village hall. Refreshments will be available in the hall and at the Captain Cook Inn.

Entrance will cost £8 on the door per session, £14 on the door per day or £30 on the door for the whole weekend, but Trevor has said anyone who books tickets before the weekend will receive a reduction in prices. There will be free entry to the Beer Festival at the CAMRA award-winning pub the Captain Cook Inn.

Jazz festival tickets are available from The Captain Cook Inn in Staithes Lane on (01947) 840200 or Diamond Music in Flowergate.
