Cricketers from Ugthorpe have set a new darts world record while raising thousands of pounds which has secured the future of their club.
Ugthorpe Lodge hosted the event which saw members of Ugthorpe Cricket Club throw an exhausting 226 legs over 12 hours which raised £3,000 for the club.

The money raised will go towards much needed equipment explained secretary, Brian Summerson.

He told the Whitby Gazette: “We are going to buy some proper nets and we need to buy a new lawn mower.

“We also need cricket equipment, like bats and bails.”

Nineteen players participated in the record attempt with Rich Parkin playing an energy-sapping 96 legs.

The record was verified by World Darts Magazine which was surprised by the score achieved.

Mr Summerson added: “The magazine was very impressed by the score.

“I’m also a member of a darts forum and most people were predicting we would do well to get to 150 legs.

“The more we went on the faster we got.”

There were various other events on the day including an auction which raised £873 and a raffle which brought in £2,000.
