The 24 children aged from nine to 11 made more than 100 of the calendars and sold them to raise cash for their school.

Class teacher Lisa Armstrong said: “It was an idea that came from the parents and carers’ council who suggested it.

“The children formed their own company with a design team and an environmental team to produce the calendars and some of them made a spread sheet.

“They did all the designing and drew pictures for it.

“The environmental team came up with ideas for re-using it after it had finished as a calendar, for example by converting it into a seed tray or rolling the pages to make jewellery.

“On each page they also put environmentally-friendly messages including walking instead of driving and they were made from recycled paper produced from elephant faeces.

“As it was a birthday calendar they each drew pictures of themselves to be included on their birthday dates.

“The calendars went down a storm and sold really well at our school concert and carol service, but we don’t yet know how much money we’ll have made from them.
