HARD-WORKING youngsters at Oakridge Primary School in Hinderwell found that writing letters paid off when they succeeded in raising £6,000 for play equipment.
Headteacher Christine Zanelli said: “The children did all the hard fundraising work themselves writing very persuasive letters to businesses and councils putting the case for play equipment for all the children, who are aged from three years to eleven.

“It was all their own idea and I’m very proud of them – we’ve been wanting play equipment for years.

“We’d also like to say a really big thank you to everyone who supported us including the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association.”

The school also held a sponsored bounce, an Easter fair and a bingo session.

Mrs Zanelli who road tested the play equipment said: “I love the rope bridge and the tyre park but the children’s favourite is the sandbox.”
