ANY OTHER URGENT BUSINESS
Councillor Fowler raised the issue of North Yorkshire Police's failure to provide a police presence at the Lifeboat weekend despite this having been pre-arranged and undertakings given that an Operational Order would be issued. Trouble flared up with gangs of youths from outside the area which was handled very well by officers from Cleveland Police but no NY officers arrived until after the fighting was reported at around 5pm.
Cleveland officers removed three van loads of trouble makers and "marched out" at least three other groups. The Lifeboat Committee and local residents are truly angry and appalled by this failure of our local police and require answers as to how this situation was permitted to occur.
County Councillor Kenyon confirmed that she would most definitely be investigating and suggested that both she and Inspector D Barf be requested to attend the Lifeboat Weekend de-briefing and the next parish council meeting.
Councillor Mitchell advised that a vehicle had left the road (A174 at Staithes) on Thursday 6 August, completely demolishing a parish seat, two fences and hedge. Clerk to report to the Police and attempt to obtain drivers details to re-claim the cost of replacing the parish seat.
A letter is to be sent to PC Nigel Whaling, via Whitby Policy Station wishing him a very speeding recovery from his recent surgery.
The meeting closed at 11.10 am.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING
