Hinderwell Cemetery
Councillor Mitchell presented a quotation from Mr R Thompson for strimming and tidying the verges around the cemetery in the amount of £360. The clerk pointed out that the clearance works carried out in March had been a once only event and that should the council now wish to have the verges cleared on a regular basis it would be necessary for the council to obtain more than one quotation as well as establish a source of funding for this additional work. There is currently a program of quite major works being implemented at the cemetery along with demands from both councillors and parishioners for more and more grass cutting despite the fact that the cemetery income remains at a virtually static level year on year. Many of the works have been financed using grant funding but this would not be achievable for matters of routine maintenance such as verge clearance.
This matter is to be put before the full council in September for further discussion.

Any other business
Councillor Barwick reported that Hinderwell Village Hall Committee had not been receptive to the suggestion of having recycling facilities at that location and had suggested the industrial estate instead.
A report had been received regarding the deterioration of the cinder path at the rear of The Barras, Staithes – clerk to report to SBC.
The street lights at Dalehouse were still out of order and an accident had occurred – clerk to report urgently.
The seat between Hinderwell and Staithes had disappeared in the weeks – clerk to request Mr Moffat locate and clear around it.

Date of next meeting: Thursday 6 September at 7pm at the parish office, High Street, Hinderwell.
