Hinderwell CemeteryCouncillor Mitchell presented a quotation from Mr R Thompson for strimming and tidying the verges around the cemetery in the amount of £360. The clerk pointed out that the clearance works carried out in March had been a once only event and that should the council now wish to have the verges cleared on a regular basis it would be necessary for the council to obtain more than one quotation as well as establish a source of funding for this additional work. There is currently a program of quite major works being implemented at the cemetery along with demands from both councillors and parishioners for more and more grass cutting despite the fact that the cemetery income remains at a virtually static level year on year. Many of the works have been financed using grant funding but this would not be achievable for matters of routine maintenance such as verge clearance.
This matter is to be put before the full council in September for further discussion.
