DANBY girls are celebrating after coming out on top in a recent schools football competition.
The tournament, held at Stakesby School, saw 12 teams from the area fight it out for the title.

The competition was split into four groups of three teams and after the first round of matches, the teams finishing highest in their group went into a round robin format with Danby seeing off East Whitby, Egton and Goathland schools to claim victory.

In the second competition, for teams who failed to reach the top four, the plate final was shared between West Cliff School and Lealholm School after they battled out a tense draw.

Stan Jackson, headteacher of Stakesby School where the tournament was held, said the tournament was a great success.
