PORT Mulgrave trials rider Jack Howell is competing in his second year of B class events as part of the British Youth Trials Championships – and has got off to an encoraging start.
The first round at Harwood Dale was held in very difficult conditions with tough slippy sections requiring maximum concentration to avoid injury.

Caedmon School pupil Jack (13) achieved an excellent second place, competing against 38 riders from all over Great Britain.

The second round brought Jack to Dob Park, Otley, where 45 riders competed in woodland. Jack finished third with another excellent ride, despite feeling unwell.

Jack – who has been riding since the age of four – continues to train or compete in local events every weekend.

He ended a very successful 2007 by winning the East Yorkshire Centre Championship and Club Championships for Scarborough District Motor Club, Hull Auto Cycle Club, and Eboracum Motor Cycle Club.

On a rare weekend off, Jack helps with the organisation of adult trials, observes and last summer, he took part in demonstrations at Hinderwell Gala Day and Castleton Show.

These events gave people an insight into what trials riding involves and they can pick up information on local clubs.

Jack thanks Feet Up Trialsport of Seamer, Scarborough and John Lampkin Imports who sponsor him in local and national events.

He would also thanks local people for their constant encouragement, Alex Godby for his excellent abilities as a minder this year, and his dad for all of the help and support and driving around the county over the last six years.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring Jack, call (07866) 241990.
