WHITBY and Staithes both tied their Beckett League premier division cricket clashes in an unusual turn of events.
After winning the toss and electing to bat to bat Whitby 1sts made a confident total with Mark Harrison (80), Alistair Lyth (63) and Chris Lyth (34) making the big scores.
Whitby finished with a score of 228, only losing six wickets.
Opponents Ebberston made a quick start and looked to get the runs quickly.
Following a 94 partnership from Mike Hosely and Tom Bumby, Ebberston needed two runs to win off the last ball.
Aussie Brendan Godfrey steamed in but the batsmen scrambled through, with wicketkeeper Mark Harrison just missing his attempted run out.
The match ended up as a draw.
Staithes and Sherburn couldn't be separated as their game also finished as a tie. Sherburn posted 171/7 in a game reduced to 40 overs per side.
Andrew Theaker was Staithes' top bowler with figures of 3-24 from seven overs.
Ian Dixon (36) and Mark Allen (26) helped Staithes' cause, but Andrew Holtby's 4-44 and Kev Metcalfe's 3-47 left them in trouble.
An unbeaten 24 from Jeff Morrison allowed Staithes in on the points though, as he added 17 runs in a last-wicket partnership with Theaker, whose two from the final ball squared the encounter up.
Whitby 2nds had a tight five-run success in their game against Ebberston 2nds.
Whitby managed 102-9 from their 45 overs. Duncan Russell scored 37 and Josh Suckling added 22 to put the runs on the board.
Veteran Chris Beal kept Ebberston on course and Turnbull made a handy 19, but 5-28 off 19 overs from Steve Crowther, and 3-20 for James Fawcett made sure the reply dropped just short.
