WHITBY Cricket Club 1sts and Staithes both beat the weather on Saturday – but will probably wish they hadn't.
Whitby's opponents Cloughton started well in their Beckett League premier division clash and were 133/1 at one point, but soon slumped to 159 all out in a dramatic collapse.
Steve Allen and Brendan Godfrey took four wickets each. However, Whitby fell to just 89 in reply with Ian Suckling top-scoring on 34.
Staithes also fell short of the required target away to Ebberston.
The hosts hit 178/5 with Jeff Morrison claiming 3-43 for Staithes. But the visitors could only muster 123 all out, with Richard Ward hitting 49.
Elsewhere, Whitby 2nds and Fylingdales had their games abandoned.
